Get Out of Your Own Way
GET OUT OF YOUR OWN WAY.
This is my personal lesson to learn this year. It’s a big life lesson, and sometimes it’s HARD to do! But practicing it makes a big difference…
Sometimes we cannot help but meddle with our own lives, thinking we know best. But often times, we may feel lost – with no clear vision of our future – because we are STANDING IN THE WAY of our own progress. It’s like over-stirring the cake batter, making things tougher than they should be.
My friend, Jennifer, told me this saying (“get out of your own way”) about six months ago. And, for as much as I’m usually IN my own way, I do listen to others and take their advice to heart. So this I did, and I’m actively testing out the validity of these wise words (although I have to constantly remind myself)!
Now, I’m a big believer of digging in and working hard. If you want something done, there’s no better place to start than with yourself! But, be ware of relying so heavily on yourself that you neglect to accept help from friends, advice from neighbors, and inspiration from above. Greater possibilities arise when playing with others, working together, and traveling in pairs.
You may find yourself, at times, feeling like you’re lacking in the opportunities or ‘connections’ department in life, but let me tell you something! You’re not. Everything and everyone you need on your journey is right here with you – or within arms reach – or available through a friend of a friend. Whether you end up where you ‘think’ you’re going in life, or find yourself in other, amazing places along the way, everything you need in it’s proper time and place will be available to you. You are blessed. And when you acknowledge you are blessed, you will experience a blessed life. Little, tiny, mighty miracles will happen for you every day.
Pretty nifty, huh? Pretty nifty indeed.
So, practice getting out of your own way. Take it easy a little. Stop fretting, stop meddling. Take a deep breath. Count to ten, and look around to see who and what is already in your life. Step back to get a full, clear view and proper perspective, and let your road take you where it will.
“If you run out of ideas, follow the road. You’ll get there.” ― Edgar Allan Poe
May your journey be paved with peace, warmed with love, and full of surprises that delight and challenge you.
Much Love, Makenzie
